Liberal Democrats are calling for an Oyster style card to be introduced across Greater Manchester by Christmas.
Cllr Iain Roberts leads the Lib Dem Group on Transport for Greater Manchester. Cllr Roberts said “Almost every bus and tram stop in Greater Manchester already has the equipment needed.”
Labour hired ATOS to manage the scheme, but ATOS recently admitted they were unable to deliver.
Cllr Geoff Abel is Liberal Democrat spokesperson on Trams and Trains for Greater Manchester. He said “ATOS had no track record of delivering this sort of system so it should be no great surprise that they failed. But where our system has stalled, others across the country are rolling out travel smartcard systems more quickly and at a lower cost.”
